My practice focuses on improvingthe lives of patients with painful conditions of the foot and ankle. As Chief of the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Division at the University of Michigan I strived to treat my patients and educate our residents to treat all patients as if they were a member of their family. This translates into focusing treatment on the whole patient, understanding the patient’s needs and concerns, and combining this to treat the orthopedic pathology.
In addition to a commitment to my patients, I have a strong commitment to education and have written over 30 book chapters and lectured both nationally and internationally. I have also had the honor of being guest professor and performing surgery in China. I employ what I research to be the most effective orthopedic treatment modalities, both nonoperative and surgical to improve the function and pain of my patients. I believe in advancing the field of foot and ankle orthopedic surgery and have been on the forefront of developing new surgical techniques to help improve the quality of care that surgeons are able to deliver.
