IBJI Educates Athletes

IBJI’s staff is celebrating National Athletic Training Month during March. “We Prepare – You Perfom” is 2015’s slogan for this observance, organized by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

IBJI’s athletic training staff is closely involved in educating athletes of all ages about the importance of being active and staying healthy. Earlier this year, IBJI Rehab hosted its third annual “IBJI Sports Medicine Knowledge Bowl” for students interested in sports medicine careers. The Knowledge Bowl was the brainchild of IBJI’s Annika Safstrom, ATC. Designed to help students learn about careers in sports medicine, the event invites members of high school clubs to participate in a Jeopardy-style competition to show off their knowledge and skills.

IBJI Rehab provides teams with a study guide at the beginning of the school year. The goal is to encourage students’ ambitions about their sports medicine and athletic training studies. Categories in the Knowledge Bowl included evaluation, anatomy and injury prevention.

This year’s winning team hailed from Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park, which took home a $250 grant for the school’s sports medicine student club. Other participating high schools included New Trier, Neuqua Valley, Lyons Township, Wheeling, and Stagg.

IBJI wants to remind everyone this month to get out there and be active. For helpful tips and articles about staying healthy, visit https://www.facebook.com/ibjirehab.
