Biography

Dr. Arnold Cohn is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.  He evaluates patients with all conditions of the musculoskeletal system.  His specialties include hip and knee joint replacement surgery, as well as minimally invasive surgery for sports related injuries.  He routinely performs hand surgery for a variety of common hand conditions.  Diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the back and neck are also an area of interest. Dr. Cohn has had a life long interest in problem solving.  The first of many United States Patents was issued to him when he developed a pediatric restraint system while completing his internship at Loyola University Medical Center. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with High Distinction in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.  His MD degree was earned at The Chicago Medical School, and internship and orthopedic surgery residency were completed at Loyola University Medical Center, where Dr. Cohn is Associate Clinical Professor. Dr. Cohn truly enjoys his relationships with his patients and their families.  The satisfaction of seeing one of his patients walk down the hall after recovering from a serious injury remains one of his great joys.

Additional Areas of Expertise

Philosophy of Care

Relying on his training both in anthropology and medicine, Dr. Cohn tries to evaluate the patient as a whole, taking into consideration their non-orthopaedic medical conditions and psychological factors, rather than simply viewing the skeleton as separate from the rest of the body.  He carefully listens to patients’ descriptions of their problems, and provides realistic expectations of what their care can accomplish.  Every attempt is made to use the most minimally  invasive  methods, and great care is taken to avoid surgical complications.
