IBJI-Glenview has just announced that its OrthoAccess facility has expanded its service hours by 15 hours each week. OrthoAccess offers patients immediate care for orthopaedic injuries, everything from sprains and strains to simple fractures and sports injuries. Effective immediately, IBJI’s OrthoAccess facility in Glenview will now serve patients from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Fridays, and from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturdays.

Illinois Bone & Joint Institute rolled out the first of its walk-in clinics six years ago. Since then, they’ve added multiple locations and seen consumer demand skyrocket. In 2014, IBJI’s OrthoAccess clinics saw more than 10,000 patients.

Designed to provide patients with an alternative to the emergency room, OrthoAccess provides faster, more affordable care. Patients appreciate the fact that OrthoAccess offers a much shorter wait time than emergency rooms. Since OrthoAccess facilities are staffed by orthopaedic specialists, patients are seen more quickly by the type of specialist their injury requires. Treating the average injury in the OrthoAccess environment usually takes just 60 to 90 minutes.

Another key benefit for OrthoAccess patients is that a visit typically costs far less than a trip to the emergency room. The average cost for an emergency room visit for an orthopaedic injury is $1,000. That same injury, treated at IBJI’s OrthoAccess, costs around $225. Particularly for patients with high-deductible health plans and for patients who self-pay, this savings is important.

According to Melody Winter, Administrator at IBJI-Glenview, “We created OrthoAccess in response to our patients’ needs. Their lifestyles are such that they need access to orthopaedic care outside of traditional office hours, so we delivered it. Demand has been so strong for this kind of high quality, affordable care that we are now extending our hours to ensure we can serve all of the patients who need our care.” Several recent studies bear out the experience at IBJI-Glenview. In one study, patients indicated that they would be 50 percent less likely to seek emergency room treatment if their physician’s office were open during evening hours.

IBJI’s OrthoAccess offering is part of a growing specialty-specific line of immediate care options. Rather than providing a general practitioner to consult on everything from strep throat to a broken arm, these specialty-specific clinics give patients immediate access to physicians whose training matches their type of injury. “The decision to expand hours at OrthoAccess was an easy one,” explained Winter. “Patient demand was extremely high. We also saw huge demand from referring physicians who recognize the importance of sending their patients to an immediate care center that is staffed by physicians. They know their patients will get the highest quality of care from doctors who are bone and joint specialists,” said Winter.

IBJI-Glenview’s OrthoAccess clinic is located at 2350 Ravine Way in Glenview. Patients may phone ahead to 844-IBJI-DOC (844-425-4362) or walk in during the clinic’s newly expanded hours:
