Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) and the Health Performance Institute (HPI) played an important role in the 2014 International World Triathlon Series (WTS), which came to Chicago over the June 27-29 weekend. As a WTS partner and as the Official Orthopaedic and Physical Therapy Provider for this elite endurance event, IBJI and HPI provided sponsorship and on-site medical and therapeutic care.

The Chicago series is one of eight international WTS races being held in 2014 and the only U.S. stop for this competitive event. WTS Chicago drew elite and amateur athletes, representing 31 countries and 49 states. Dr. Andrew Hunt of IBJI-Glenview served as the medical director, overseeing the safety and well-being of more than 4,000 competitors that weekend.

IBJI and HPI volunteers were also on hand to staff the post-race recovery area. Triathletes filled the tent to take advantage of the range of complimentary services. Offering relief in the form of massage therapy, manual therapy and Mighty Body Band workouts, more than 20 expert clinicians helped racers recover from the grueling swim, cycle and run course completed in extremely high temperatures that weekend.

“The WTS team hosted a world class event and IBJI was honored to be involved,” said Matt Repa of HPI. “It was the perfect fit for IBJI and HPI professionals because both organizations are committed to delivering the highest caliber of specialty orthopaedic care and to helping athletes of all levels perform at their personal best,” said Repa.
