The physicians and staff at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute are passionate about helping athletes all over Chicagoland move better and live better. To demonstrate that commitment, IBJI recently helped the Chicago Tribune’s TribLocal division kick off a program that highlights the achievements of young athletes and benefits local schools.

IBJI’s Dr. Amy Jo Ptaszek took the stage on December 13 to recognize Glenbrook South Titans cross country star David O’Gara as one of TribLocal’s “Athlete of the Month” winners. With his top finish in the 19-team Warren Cross Country Invite this fall, O’Gara became Glenbrook South’s first major invite champion in 20 years. O’Gara, a senior, was cheered on by the crowd as he accepted his Athlete of the Month award.

A Glenview resident, Dr. Ptaszek has worked with Glenbrook South student athletes for several years. She is one of the team doctors staffing Glenbrook South football games, is a foot and ankle consultant for injured athletes, and communicates closely with the athletic trainers at Glenbrook South. Dr. Ptaszek is also involved with the Glenview Education Foundation, Glenview Youth Baseball, and Glenview Junior Titan Basketball as a sponsor and consultant. She presented a donation check for $500 from IBJI to assistant athletic director Mike Noll, who accepted on behalf of the school’s athletic department. IBJI will continue its sponsorship of the Athlete of the Month program throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
