Illinois Bone and Joint Institute’s, Steven Mardjetko, MD will be receiving the Walter P. Blount Humanitarian Award in September 2014 at the Scoliosis Research Society Meeting.
This award honors those who act generously out of their sense of service to larger social and professional goals, and whose work in spinal deformity provides significant service to others, including international and charity care.
For years, Dr. Mardjetko has volunteered his spinal care services and expertise, beginning with the Cali Colombia Pediatric Spinal Deformity Medical Mission. For the past 6 years, he has been actively involved with the Bulgaria Global Outreach program. Dr. Mardjetko was instrumental in the development of these programs from their inception and has served as a mentor to his orthopaedic colleagues. Because of his hard work and dedication, the spine surgeons in Bulgaria are ready to operate independently and continue to help those children in need of corrective spinal deformity surgery.
