Brian Robinson recently came to IBJI after 37 years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Glenbrook South High School, where he developed one of the first comprehensive athletic health care programs within the secondary school environment. He has treated thousands of athletes at all levels of competition encompassing all orthopedic problems. During his time at Glenbrook South, Brian took special interest in the development and management of ACL protocols. Additionally, he developed one of the first Academic Modifications and Return-to-Learn protocols for students suffering from sports related concussions. These protocols have been adopted by many high school districts throughout the country as well as many physician groups. In addition to his efforts at Glenbrook South, Brian has had the opportunity to work with Ohio State University Athletics, University of Arizona Athletic Department, the USOC Training Center in Colorado Springs, as a faculty member at Northern Illinois University and with the Northwestern University Sports Medicine staff. Brian enjoys working with active youths and adults helping them return to the activities they enjoy. Brian has served on many national committees including the Sports Medicine Advisory Group of the NFHS which governs high school athletics and activities. In addition, he has served at the Chairman of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Secondary School Committee. Brian has had the opportunity to travel extensively, presenting on subjects including functional rehabilitation techniques, concussion management protocols as well as value models for secondary and collegiate sports medicine programs. Brian has appeared numerous times on ESPN, WGN, CNN and CBS Evening News as well as local TV broadcasts to discuss topics such as concussions, catastrophic sport related injuries as well as the need for improved safety and medical care for all youth athletes. In 2015, Brian was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame.
