Daniel Herzog came to IBJI in early 2025 after being referred to Dr. Phillip Ludkowski for a second opinion on persistent pain in his right knee. The pain had started suddenly in September 2024, and by the holidays, it had become so severe he couldn’t walk up stairs or even take his dog around the block.
A 69-year-old lifelong athlete and self-described gym rat, Daniel plays competitive ice hockey three times a week and works out daily. From their first meeting, Daniel felt an immediate connection with Dr. Ludkowski. “He listened to every word I said,” Daniel shared. “I told him I just wanted to get back to the things I love—to get my life back.”
Dr. Ludkowski developed a detailed plan that included a physical exam, X-rays, and an MRI. Within days, Daniel was back in the office reviewing the results. The good news: he was a candidate for the Oxford partial knee replacement, based on clear diagnostic evidence. The surgery was scheduled four weeks later.
Thanks to the skill of Dr. Ludkowski and his team, Daniel was walking with a cane on day one—and walking unassisted by day four. His rehab included physical therapy twice a week, along with daily stretching at home and the gym.
Now, just 13 weeks post-surgery, Daniel is back on the ice and pain-free. “I’m so glad I chose Dr. Ludkowski,” he said. “The pain is gone, and I’m getting stronger every day. I got my life back.”
