IBJI CARES, the philanthropic arm of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute, gathered for an unforgettable evening of elegance and impact at its first-ever gala. The event brought together IBJI physicians, team members, sponsors, and community partners to support Operation Rainbow, a nonprofit organization providing life-changing orthopedic care to children in underserved communities worldwide.
Thanks to the generosity of attendees and sponsors, the gala reached its goal to donate $100,000, which will directly support Operation Rainbow’s mission to deliver free orthopedic surgeries, train local medical professionals, and build sustainable care programs in developing countries.
Founded in 1978, Operation Rainbow has performed over 19,000 surgeries across more than 19 countries. Each year, its multidisciplinary teams conduct 12-14 medical missions, performing 45-65 corrective surgeries per mission and treating 200-300 patients with non-surgical care, all while mentoring local healthcare providers. The organization operates with minimal overhead, directing 98% of donations straight to programs in the field.
“Hosting this gala was an incredible opportunity to unite our community around a cause that reflects who we are as a healthcare organization,” said Cathy Irwin, IBJI CARES Board Chair. “Achieving our goal of raising $100,000 for Operation Rainbow is a testament to the generosity, dedication, and collaboration of all who participated—from our sponsors to the physicians and volunteers who brought this event to life.”
Throughout the evening, IBJI physicians and leaders shared reflections on the importance of service, collaboration, and using their expertise to make a meaningful impact. Their remarks underscored why supporting organizations like Operation Rainbow is a natural extension of IBJI’s mission to restore mobility and improve quality of life.
IBJI CARES extends heartfelt thanks to all attendees, sponsors, and partners who made the gala a success. Their generosity not only supported Operation Rainbow’s vital work, but also laid the foundation for continued philanthropic initiatives.
In addition to supporting global outreach, IBJI CARES also recognized the needs of the local community, donating a combined total of $50,000 to over 20 local food pantries at the end of 2025.
