Have you ever wondered what your physician does when they aren’t in the office or operating room helping patients? IBJI takes a look outside of the office with Matthew Jimenez, MD, to learn about his interests outside of the orthopedic realm.

Dr. Jimenez is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in joint and pelvis reconstruction, specializing in orthopedic fracture care and joint reconstruction. When he isn’t working, Dr. Jimenez’s favorite tools are a paint brush, paint and canvas. That’s right, Dr. Jimenez enjoys painting and drawing!

To create his works, he uses paint, charcoal and ink as his medium. His artwork consists of landscapes, portraits, animals, and the human body.

When asked why he began to practice art, Dr. Jimenez responded, “I began art at the age of 40 with the goal of improving my three-dimensional visualization. Now, art is simply a joyful hobby.” Not only is art a peaceful pastime for Dr. Jimenez, but he also utilizes it to help with aspects of his orthopedic career.

Dr. Jimenez is inspired by the world around him and his daily work. He applies this inspiration to his artwork. “Surgery is an art predicated on science. My art has made me a better surgeon. I draw and paint what I know and love,” says Dr. Jimenez.
