Biography

Dr. Michael Murphy is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction with advanced fellowship training at the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Arlington, Virginia. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center and earned his medical degree with research honors from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in biomechanical engineering from Marquette University, where he graduated summa cum laude.

Dr. Murphy has distinguished himself as both a clinician and innovator. He has developed multiple patented medical devices, cross-platform surgical software, and AI-powered mobile applications that streamline operating room workflows and autonomously identify orthopedic implants. His research has been widely published in leading journals, including The Journal of Arthroplasty, and highlighted on national and international platforms. He has received numerous awards, including recognition for top presentations at major orthopedic conferences, competitive research grants, and journal cover features.

In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Murphy has contributed as a reviewer for Scientific Reports (Nature) and The Journal of Arthroplasty, and has authored textbook chapters on hip and knee reconstruction. His professional service includes leadership roles in medical societies, global medical brigades in Central America, and over a decade of community service supporting the homeless.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Murphy is an endurance athlete who has completed an Ironman triathlon, marathons, and other competitive races, reflecting the discipline and resilience he brings to patient care.
