Biography
Paul grew up in Arlington Heights and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a minor in sports medicine. He worked for one year as a certified athletic trainer. When he realized his passion for rehabilitation, Paul decided to pursue a degree in physical therapy at Hogeschool Enschede (now Saxion University) in the Netherlands. Upon graduation he returned to the Chicago area and accepted a position in outpatient sports medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He became the team leader and assistant manager for the sports medicine program.
After six years, Paul joined Illinois Bone & Joint Institute’s Glenview office, where he helped establish and lead the sports medicine special interest group. In the course of this work, Paul became aware of a high shoulder injury rate among swimmers on a local high school’s swim team. In search of a solution, he created a study where he took three different measurements on the athletes and added three exercises to their training regimen. Subsequently, the team’s shoulder injury rate decreased significantly, and the team actually went on to win the Illinois state swimming championship that year. He was invited to present the study and its results at the Second International Congress of Shoulder Therapy in Brazil in 2009.
After 22 years in sports medicine, Paul left to work in home health rehab following the pandemic and then did a brief stint at a local private physical therapy practice.
He’s thrilled to be back at IBJI helping patients reach their full wellness potential on the OrthoHealth team.
