Biography

Ruvini (Ruvi) De Vas Gunawardhane, APRN, FNP-BC, has been on a journey in healthcare that has been shaped by a deep belief that every person deserves to feel seen, supported, and empowered in their own health. For more than ten years as a nurse practitioner, she has had the privilege of caring for individuals across every stage of life—from adolescents navigating new health challenges to adults managing complex medical needs. Her experience in adult, family, and adolescent medicine, along with immediate care, has taught her that health is never one-size-fits-all; it’s personal, layered, and deeply connected to each person’s story. 

Ruvi's passion for obesity medicine grew from witnessing how profoundly weight, metabolism, and lifestyle can impact both physical and emotional well-being. She wanted to better understand those complexities and to serve patients with the compassion and evidence-based guidance they deserve. Earning her Certificate of Advanced Education in obesity medicine from the Obesity Medicine Association allowed her to deepen that expertise and strengthened her commitment to providing care that goes far beyond the scale. 

Today, in her obesity medicine practice, she works closely with patients to uncover the “why” behind their health challenges and to develop sustainable, realistic plans that honor their goals and lived experiences. Ruvi aims to create a space where patients feel comfortable sharing their struggles and triumphs, knowing they have a partner walking beside them—not judging, not rushing, but truly listening. 

What fulfills her most is watching patients rediscover confidence, strength, and hope as they move toward healthier, more empowered lives. Their resilience inspires Ruvi every day, and she's grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey.
