Sherri has turned to Dr. Brian Schwartz at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute for more than a decade as arthritis gradually progressed from a daily challenge to the need for joint replacement in both her hips and knees. Throughout that journey, she found consistent guidance, thoughtful recommendations, and a clear path forward tailored to each stage of her care.

“I had hip issues, and that’s where it started. I didn’t want surgery at first, so I waited nearly three years and met with Dr. Schwartz many times before I was ready. He specializes in hips and knees, and that’s why I chose him.”

She postponed surgery until she was nearly in a wheelchair, managing pain with cortisone shots. Her hip replacements came first and were “much easier than expected.” When it came time for knee replacement, her second knee surgery was especially smooth. “Two months after that knee surgery, I was already riding my bike, and my physical therapist was impressed.” After years of constant pain, being active again felt life-changing.

Looking back, Sherri says trust and timing made all the difference. After years of managing pain, she appreciated having “that light at the end of the tunnel.” She explains that after the first 10 days, “you start to get more mobile and see benefits.”

Having gone through multiple joint replacements since 2019, Sherri credits Dr. Schwartz and the IBJI team for helping her feel confident every step of the way. “He gave me the facts but never pushed me into surgery. You know when you’re ready,” she says. Her advice is simple: “Talk to people who’ve had it done. Interview doctors. Find someone you trust. Having good communication with your team makes all the difference.”
