IBJI is well known among patients and the orthopaedic community for its expertise in treating spinal conditions. In observance of World Spine Day on October 16, IBJI is proud to share the news that one of its spine specialists, Dr. Steven Mardjetko, has earned not just one, but three major honors for his exceptional work.
The first honor was bestowed last month at the Scoliosis Research Society Meeting, where Dr. Mardjetko received the Walter P. Blount Humanitarian Award. This award honors those who act generously out of their sense of service to larger social and professional goals, and whose work in spinal deformity provides significant service to others, including international and charity care.
For years, Dr. Mardjetko has volunteered his spinal care expertise in regions where advanced specialty care is scarce. He was instrumental in the creation of the Cali Columbia Pediatric Spinal Deformity Medical Mission. Since 2008, he has also been an instrumental part of the Bulgaria Global Outreach program. As a mentor to his orthopaedic colleagues, Dr. Mardjetko has helped train spine surgeons to operate independently and to help children in need of corrective spinal deformity surgery.
Dr. Mardjetko was also recently named to Becker’s Spine Review 2014 list of “240 Spine Surgeons to Know” and the publication’s list of “62 Scoliosis-Focused Spine Surgeons to Know.” Becker’s recognized Dr. Mardjetko, in part, for his expertise as a spinal deformities and pediatric orthopedic specialist and for his work to help parents check their children for scoliosis.
Congratulations to Dr. Mardjetko and to all of his colleagues invested in diagnosing and correcting spinal conditions and abnormalities so that patients can enjoy their lives.
