The physicians and staff at Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) are passionate about helping athletes all over Chicagoland move better and live better. To demonstrate that commitment, IBJI recently partnered with the Chicago Tribune’s TribLocal division on a program that highlights the achievements of young athletes and benefits local schools.
IBJI’s Dr. Stanford Tack and athletic trainer Megan Hutchins took the stage on February 21 to recognize Lake Forest field hockey star Emily Cavalaris as one of TribLocal’s “Athlete of the Month” winners. As captain of the Lake Forest Scouts field hockey team, Cavalaris was the leading scorer on her team and helped the Scouts win back to back state championships. Cavalaris, an All State, All Academic student athlete, was cheered on by the crowd as she accepted her Athlete of the Month award.
A longtime resident of Lake Forest, Dr. Tack is an orthopedic surgeon in IBJI’s Libertyville division. He is a specialist in spine surgery and works frequently with high school athletes and their families. IBJI’s Megan Hutchins serves as one of Lake Forest High School’s athletic trainers, helping to develop sport-specific conditioning programs and ensure the safety of students participating in school athletics.
Dr. Tack presented a donation check for $500 from IBJI to athletic director Tim Burkhalter, who accepted on behalf of the school’s athletic department. IBJI will continue its sponsorship of the Athlete of the Month program throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
