William J. Robb, III, MD, Recognized by his Peers with Highest Honor
IBJI is pleased to announce that William J. Robb, III, MD, has been selected as the 2017 winner of the William W. Tipton Jr., MD, Leadership Award. The Tipton Leadership Award is a high honor, which is bestowed annually by The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). Winning the Tipton Leadership Award elevates Dr. Robb into an elite group of orthopedic specialists. He is one of only 12 physicians ever to have earned this distinction.
The Tipton Leadership Award recognizes AAOS members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership that has benefited the orthopedic community, patients and/or the American public. In announcing the award, the AAOS commended Dr. Robb for his “career-long history of leadership in both professional and volunteer capacities.”
A specialist in reconstructive knee surgery, Dr. Robb has a reputation as a strong advocate for patient safety. He helped establish a new safety culture while serving as chair of the AAOS Patient Safety Committee from 2012 until 2016. He also co-chaired the first National Surgical Patient Safety Summit, which proposed national surgical safety standards. In the 1980s, Dr. Robb helped Evanston Hospital earn national recognition for successfully developing and implementing a standardized clinical pathway for total knee replacement care that directly benefitted patient care and outcomes.
Dr. Robb is one of the founders of IBJI. He is highly respected by his colleagues, including Leon S. Benson, MD. As Dr. Benson explained, “Bill is always leading and focusing on orthopedic surgery as a conduit to improving the human condition. Leadership, volunteerism and work ethic are three things that Bill lives by. He is constantly giving to education, research, the AAOS, his colleagues and most of all, his patients.” Dr. Robb sees patients at IBJI’s Glenview and Wilmette locations.
